Cole DeVault - Owner and Head Guide

Born and raised in Michigan, Cole developed a lifelong passion for angling starting at an early age. It permeated every aspect of his life.

Cole obtained his bachelors degree from Michigan State University in fisheries biology. During summers between semesters, he began his outfitting career in Alaska, guiding float trips in Katmai National Park for trophy trout and char. After university, Cole traveled abroad during the off-season living out of a backpack to pursue trout on fly. Winters spent in New Zealand, Patagonia, and Central America offered an education in fly angling that built the foundation for his guiding abilities.

While summers are still spent running remote trips in Alaska, Cole returns home to guide anglers on the waters of Northern Michigan from September through May. He possesses both a USCG Captain’s License and Michigan Guide License, and is CPR/First Aid certified.

Driven by a desire to educate, Cole combines his angling exposure from 10 countries across the globe, his education in fisheries biology, and over a decade of guiding to offer a unique approach to the guided experience.

Why ‘Green Drake’ Outfitters?

“The Green Drake mayfly (drunella grandis) is one of the premier hatches in Alaska, prompting some of the most incredible dry fly fishing on the planet.

Witnessing the incredible angling that these delicate mayflies provided fueled my early passion for guiding. Their name will forever spark excitement in my mind” - Cole DeVault
